Terms of Use
Last updated: September 2026
SkillSea is not an emergency service. In an emergency, contact the coast guard or call Mayday on VHF channel 16 first — do not wait for a reply in the app.
1. Who we are and what this covers
SkillSea is provided by Rupert Ramsl, C/ Sindicat 69, 8º – E, 07002 Palma, Spain (see the Legal Notice). By creating an account or using the app you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
2. Who can use SkillSea
You must be at least 16 years old, provide accurate information, and keep your login private. One person, one account. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
3. What SkillSea is — and is not
SkillSea is a community platform that helps sailors find each other. We do not employ or verify the sailors who use it, we do not check their skills, tools or advice, and we are not a party to any help you give or receive. Any help, repair, advice or meeting is at your own risk and your own judgement. Use good seamanship, do not act on advice that seems unsafe, and take care when sharing your position or meeting someone in person.
4. Your content and conduct
You keep the rights to what you post. You give us a non-exclusive licence to store and show it to other users as needed to run the app. You must not post or do any of the following:
- anything illegal, threatening, harassing, hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, or that exploits or endangers anyone
- false or misleading help requests, scams, spam, or unsolicited advertising (business profiles may promote their own services in the places provided)
- impersonating another person or business
- sharing someone else’s location, contact details or private information without their consent
- attempts to disrupt, scrape or gain unauthorised access to the app or other accounts
5. Reporting, blocking and moderation
- You can block any user, and report users and content directly in the app. Reports go to us privately.
- We have no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. We aim to review reports promptly, typically within 24 hours, and may remove content, warn, suspend or permanently close accounts.
- You can also contact us at rupertramsl@outlook.com.
6. Location
Sharing your location is always your choice, and you control how precisely and with whom. Remember that anyone you share it with can see it; share exact positions only when you are comfortable doing so.
7. Coints
Coints are community credits that recognise helpfulness. They have no cash value and cannot be exchanged for money unless we explicitly say so in the app.
8. Pro subscription
Some features require a paid Pro subscription. The price and billing period are shown in the app before you subscribe. Payment is handled by Apple or Google; the subscription renews automatically until you cancel it in your App Store or Google Play account settings, and refunds follow the respective store’s policy. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected.
9. Ending your use
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete account); what happens to your data is explained in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
10. Availability and liability
We work to keep SkillSea running, but it is provided “as is” and may be unavailable or contain errors. Map data, positions and information from other users may be inaccurate or outdated and must never replace official charts, navigational equipment or safety procedures. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from the use of the app or from dealings between users; nothing limits liability for intent, gross negligence, injury to life, body or health, or any right you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by contract.
11. Changes
We may update these terms as the app evolves. For material changes we will tell you in the app; continuing to use SkillSea after a change means you accept it.
12. Governing law
Spanish law applies, without depriving you of the mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live.
